Choosing The Right Sport for Your Child

Choosing The Right Sport For Your Child

If there’s one word that can be used to describe any child, it’s “potential.” Your children are bundles of raw potential. Finding the right outlet for your children is important. Because, the right outlet can influence who your children will become and help shape the rest of their lives. An obvious example of that potential is the near-limitless physical energy your kids likely exert all day. Sports are a popular outlet through which parents try to harness and shape that liveliness. With the right combination of encouragement and enthusiasm, your kids could channel their boundless energy into a lifelong love of sports. That love of sports can give children something they’ll enjoy doing for most of their lives — possibly giving them an opportunity to excel at the highest levels of competition. Yet for your kids to become champions or even just lifelong enthusiasts, they have to begin with choosing the right sport.

A child’s natural excitement for sports can be crushed quickly if he or she chooses to participate in a sport that isn’t suited for him or her. You may want your daughter to experience the same fun you had playing with your friends on the basketball court, but she may prefer the individual focus of karate or gymnastics. Choosing the right sport for your kids may make a difference in whether or not they stick with it for other reasons, as well. For example, your kids may love hockey, but if your family’s budget can’t keep up with the equipment costs, it’s likely your children won’t be able to stay on the ice. You also want to make sure that the sport your children choose gives them the best chance to succeed and continues to challenge them. For example, if your son is stronger than he is swift on his feet, he might have a better time participating in wrestling or football than cross-country or track.

All parents want to help their kids reach their fullest potential. That means helping to guide them toward making the best decisions as to where they want to direct that potential. Choosing the right sport for your kids can mean the difference between finding their passion and staying rooted to the couch. Consult the following guide for some tips about how you can help your kids choose the sport that’s right for them.

Guide For Selecting The Best Home Gymnastics Equipment

A How-To Guide For Selecting The Best Home Gymnastics Equipment

You’ve decided you want your young tumbler or gymnast to be able to practice at home, but now you’re presented with the problem of where to start. This guide will help you create the perfect home gym in a limited amount of space.

Quality home gym equipment encourages your gymnast to advance his or her skills in a safe, comfortable and affordable environment. At Nimble Sports, we offer top-quality balance beams, horizontal bars, mats and complete home gym combo packages to turn any room in your home into a place for your athlete to train or simply have fun.

Home-Use Considerations

There are a number of issues to consider when purchasing gymnastics equipment for home use. You probably don’t have 1,000 square feet of space or the lofty budget of a professional gym. Nimble Sports gymnastics equipment is designed for home use and junior gymnasts between levels one and four.

The following are a few factors to consider when creating your home gym:

  • Mat considerations: The thickness and dimensions of the mat you choose are more important than most buyers think.  It is important that the mats you purchase provide enough support to prevent injury, and are made to the standard of a competitive gym for your gymnast to practice maneuvers that are more difficult. Nimble Sports offers the best gymnastics mats for home use, which are the ideal thickness to perform a variety of skills, are exactly what you will find at the gym and can be folded for easy storage.
  • Bar considerations: It’s essential to choose horizontal bars that are  table enough for your gymnast yet easy to store when not in use. At Nimble Sports, we offer the best gymnastics bars for home use. These bars are simple to assemble and disassemble, yet strong enough to keep your junior gymnast safe at all times.

Using Your Home Equipment
There’s no doubt your son or daughter will be excited to use his or her home gym equipment the moment it arrives. Our Nimble Sports team provides all of the information needed for you to assemble your new equipment safely and easily. master the art of gymnastics at home

Monday Motivation from Ragan Smith

From Olympic Alternate to P&G Champ, Ragan is ready for her turn to rule the world of U.S Gymnastics.

Ragan is now considered a seasoned veteran of gymnastics, and one of the only ones that has made their return immediately to the sport after the Rio Olympics.

With a steady performance at P&G’s, however making room for improvement, Smith says she feels like she knows much more about what she is doing now, more so than in the past.

It is now time to build up for Tokyo.

An excerpt from USA Today;

“For the last four years, the American women joked that Simone Biles should get her own division so they could have a crack at a title. Well, they’ve got their chance now and it’s clear that ruling the gymnastics world is not quite as easy as the Olympic champ made it look.

Ragan Smith had 57.4 points Friday, the highest all-around score in the world this year, and has a commanding lead after the first of two days of competition at the P&G Championships. Riley McCusker is 1.3 points behind going into Sunday’s finals…”

A Guide to Choosing The Right Sport For Your Child

Youth sports are a big part of families’ lives today. Although it’s difficult to know exactly how many children in the United States are actively involved in organized sports, it’s estimated that more than 21 million American kids participate in children’s sports on a regular basis. For kids, youth sports represent an opportunity to play a game they love while learning about themselves and their peers. Not only do they get some important exercise and help develop their growing bodies, they also learn valuable concepts such as teamwork, sportsmanship and socialization that will help their emotional and mental development.

Yet none of those benefits can be gained if your child doesn’t stick with his or her sport, which is why it’s crucial to choose the right sport for your child at the beginning. Trying to push a child into a sport that he or she is not ready for can lead to the child abandoning it. Choosing a sport that requires too much of a commitment from a time or financial perspective can mean you may have to pull your child out of it. To avoid these potential problems, refer to the accompanying guide. It can help you choose the right sport for your son or daughter so he or she gets the most out of the experience.

Choosing The Right Sport For Your Child – Answering these questions can help ensure that your child gets the maximum benefit from sports participation.

Does Your Child Like Any Sports More Than Others?

If your son shows an affinity for basketball, or if your daughter has expressed a desire to take up archery, for example, you at least have a starting point to find a sport your child will enjoy.

What Are Your Child’s Physical Traits?

Your child’s physical traits can help determine whether a sport is right for him or her. For example, taller children may excel at basketball, while children who are stockier may find they do better at football or wrestling.

How Old Is Your Child?

Certain sports are better fits for older children because they require more physical coordination, fine motor skills or teamwork. Sports that require complicated strategy such as football, for example, may not be a good fit for younger children.

What Is Your Child’s Personality?

Some kids respond better to pressure than others. Some kids like to be part of a team while others prefer to participate in solo activities. Make sure the sport you sign your child up for is suited for his or her personality.

Do You Have Time for the Sport?

Because many families have busy schedules, some sports with a higher-commitment level for practices and games might not make much sense for them. Some sports such as baseball and softball also sometimes require traveling to tournaments and road games.

How Much Does the Sport Cost?

Some sports such as tennis or basketball don’t require much in the way of equipment, whereas hockey and football need lots of equipment. Always keep your family’s budget in mind when looking into different youth sports.

Is Your Child Having Fun?

Perhaps most important: Make sure the sport your child chooses is one he or she has fun playing. Otherwise, the time, effort and money your family puts into it may all be for nothing once your child decides he or she no longer wants to participate.

Gymnast of the Month: August

Gymnast of the month is……Sophia Diaz from @diazdolls

You may recognize Sophia from her flipping around on our Nimble Sports Gymnastics Horizontal Bar all over Instagram!

An excerpt from Sophia’s Mom;

“Sophia started gymnastics as a toddler in diapers in a mommy and me program… by the age 5 she started begging to take gymnastics! We tried a few places and she truly enjoyed it so we decided we would permanently enroll her in a place that truly matched her personality! In January of 2017, we enrolled her at her current gym. She did a month of recreational classes before she tested out and was asked to join pre-team. Sophia did pre-team from February until end of June and was asked to join their level 2 team! Sophia has such a drive and determination to learn new things and will continue to work at it until she can do it! I say work but when I see her on her equipment she is having so much fun. She was fortunate enough to receive a Nimble Sports Little Gym Deluxe set for her 5th birthday and has truly loved every piece of it. She is not only motivated to grow herself, but enjoys helping others (especially her younger sister Olivia) and her cousins…”

Sophia has always loved to perform floor routines, but is growing to love the beam which is said to be her most difficult event.

Watch for Sophia’s features on our @nimblesports Instagram Page!
