The University of Michigan’s gymnastic team hosted Michigan State on February 14th, and won the meet by a full two point lead. Junior Nicole Artz took the meet by st
orm. The junior had a record high on the beam (9.950) where she took first place, Artz also placed first in her uneven bars routine and won the all-around with an overall 39.500. Her teammates Talia Chiarelli and Lindsay Willaims also had record highs, Chiarelli on the vault with a 9.925 and Willaims on the beam with a 9.900.
The girls’ performances were outstanding but they also wowed the crowd with their support for the recently deceased Chip Hills. Chip is coach Cailee Hills father who suffered from pancreatic cancer, in his honor the girls have adopted a purple theme throughout the year called “Flip for Chip” . The whole team can be seen sporting purple ribbons in their hair!
Michigan is happy with their win and look forward to competing with in Oklahoma on the 26th. Oklahoma University is currently the top-ranked team in the nation scoring an average 197.428 while Michigan scores an average 196.993. Recently, Michigan has been scoring over 197.000 with a 197.225 at the MU vs MSU meet so the competition will be fierce.
